Meet John Pilbeam, KINTO’s Bid and Proposal Manager

Can you briefly introduce yourself and what’s your role here at KINTO?

Hi, I’m John Pilbeam, Bid and Proposal Manager at KINTO.

Can you tell us a bit more about your recent achievement?

A recent achievement was passing the APMP Capture Practitioner Certification Exam. Having not sat a test for many years it was pretty nerve racking especially as it was proctored online. After an intense two and a half hours, I hit the submit button, something I should be used to by now. Thankfully, I had the provisional nod that I was successful and just needed to submit my sponsorship form and await formal confirmation.

The official description of the certification:

‘’The aim of opportunity/capture planning is to position the customer to prefer your organisation and your solution to the exclusion of competitors, or to at least prefer to do business with your organisation prior to proposals being submitted.”

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

A typical working day starts with a coffee and a look at any notifications received for live, submitted, and future opportunities. Once happily up to date, I will work through the various actions planned for the opportunities I am working on. There are normally a few scheduled check-in or kick offs weaved in between a lot of reading and writing. The afternoons are ideally reserved for the creative part that I really enjoy. This is a great time to research and create graphics, document layouts, covers, exec summaries, presentation slides and do some story telling.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Music is a passion which I’m currently rediscovering with the help of a turn table and far too much vinyl to explore. Having worked in the automotive world for most of my life, it’s probably not surprising that I enjoy driving cars, riding motorbikes and tinkering with them when they’ve cooled down.

Who inspires you?

I take inspiration from the underdog, everyone that succeeds through hard work, determination, and integrity. Oh and Dave Grohl 😉
