UK government ends plug-in car grant with immediate effect

It has been announced that the Government is closing the plug-in grant scheme today (14th June 2022) with immediate effect.

The closure of the grants come as the Government confirms their focus moves to improving electric vehicle charging, after successfully kickstarting the UK’s electric car revolution and supporting the sale of around half a million electric vehicles through the scheme.

The government will now refocus on funding towards the main barriers to the EV transition, including public charging and supporting the purchase of other road vehicles where the switch to electric requires further development as announced in the Autumn statement.

All existing applications for the grant will continue to be honoured and where a car has been sold in the 2 working days before the announcement, but an application for the grant has not yet been made, the sale will also still qualify for the grant.
